RACES

---How Reproduction and Genetics Work--- There are no crossbreeds in Vael (with the exception of the moonish). Two people of different races can procreate, but the child can only be one race or the other. The only genetic traits that can be passed on are eye/hair color, neurology, personality, and other biological traits like disease resistance or allergies.
THE MOONISH

Lushia is a moonish noble elf/wind elf
The moonish are the only crossbreeds in Vael, due to genes from the Lunavin (a mysterious, isolated moon-dwelling race) causing mutation. They can be any race or mix of races. They originated from a few Lunavin who migrated to Vael, much to the chagrin of the moon-dwelling Lunavin who did not approve of mixing with other races. The moonish are stigmatized by not only the Lunavin, but also non-moonish Vaelians, as crossbreeding is usually impossible and considered unnatural in Vael. (Note: moonish typically call Vaelians “non-moonish” while Vaelians call themselves Vaelians--they see moonish as outsiders so it is suitable to only consider themselves real residents of Vael)
The crossbreeds are obvious outwardly as physical traits of both parents (if differing races) can mix in their children--i.e. “the child is both fluffy (beast elf) AND blue (mist elf).” The neurological aspects of the moonish also make them similar to Neurodivergent people. The moonish commonly have extremely strong but unstable magic abilities, and are susceptible to mental illness as well as the Shadow Mark. Some moonish wear moon crystals (or moondrops, in the case of the moonish at the Angel’s Temple) to correct their imbalances and ward off the Shadow Mark.


NOBLE ELF

- Primary mages of Vael
- Great business-people who value innovation
- Pride themselves on being socially / technologically advanced, though often borrows from wind elf technology
- Lives in populated cities
- Consider themselves the "true elves"
- The primal elven races (woodland/beast elves) are not often fond of them and often call them “Snob Elves”

WIND ELF
- ADHD traits
- Quicker thinkers
- Innovative: primary inventors/engineers/operators/mechanics of Mecha (steampunk-looking technology) in Vael
- Nomadic, born travellers
- May live in groups or in solitude
- Great survival skills
- Most Sea Pirates or Sky Pirates tend to be wind elves.
(along with sailors, pilots, lightning canal operators and others)

WOODLAND ELF

- Partially nomadic
- May live in groups or in solitude
- Spiritual: More spiritual than noble elves and less primal than beast elves

BEAST ELF
- Nomadic, travel in "packs" like a "family" with a strong sense of group cohesion
- Primal: More primal and less spiritual than noble elves & woodland elves
- Experienced traders, making a living at major markets and on the road
Most beast elves would likely not live among city elves: they would either travel in groups of other beast elves or woodland elves. In the case of living with woodland elves, it's usually only 1 or 2 beast elves--in those cases, they likely left their pack due to being cast out, not getting along with other beast elves, or voluntarily leaving.
"Arids" are type of beast elf that prefers hot, dry climates.

MIST ELF

- Great warriors and blacksmiths - Most live in underground tunnels, caves, and by waterfalls.
- Values tradition, cultural preservation, and honor - Appearance: shades of blue/grey skin and blue hair. Hair is typically lighter when skin is darker, and hair is darker when skin is lighter.

FAIRY
- Female-only, often beautiful
- Many types: i.e. Forest Fairy, Water Fairy, Fire Fairy, etc.
- Appearance is closest to human, though traits vary by type


RORC
A race similar to orcs.

TEKRIN
A lizard-like race similar to Argonians from Elder Scrolls. There are several types:
  1. Terrestrial
  2. Aquatic
  3. Amphibious
Terrestrial Tekrin typically have dry, scaly skin and live their entire lives on land thanks to having lungs and no gills. They can swim, but they run much faster.
Aquatic Tekrin have wet, smooth scales and always live underwater as they cannot breathe air through their gills and have no lungs.
Amphibious Tekrin live both on land and water as they possess a set of gills and lungs. Their scales are not as dry/hard as a terrestrial tekrins. They are equally skilled in both running and swimming, but they don’t specialize in either like the other types of tekrin.

  • Behelish (like British)
  • Desolatian (like Arabic)
- Most humans hail from the northern mountains, Rovistark, or Hagn in Avael/Devael


VALTARIAN

Average Lifespan: 100-150 years
(Human Race)
- Short like dwarves and sturdy as rocks, yet with the fair appearance (light skin/hair/eyes) of a Scandanavian. You can find taller Valtarians in Snowtop and Behel due to mixed blood.
- Generally optimistic, but stoic when they need to be
- Primary blacksmiths of Vael

BEHELISH

Average Lifespan: 90-110 years
