MOON CRYSTAL
Moon crystals are a type of naturally-occurring mineral from the Moon, prized by both the moon-dwelling Lunavin and the Vael-dwelling moonish for their ability to filter and focus magic. They are similar to herkimer diamonds in appearance, but glow under moonlight.
For the moonish, moon crystals are used in everything from technology to magic to healing. They can also ward away the Shadow Mark (which the moonish are particularly vulnerable to) or prevent corruption in those already afflicted; though only in the moonish.
The crystals also aid in stabilizing intense magic and correcting emotional/mental/spiritual imbalance in the moonish, so they've been historically worn as pendants or kept on their person. While the moonish have always done this, the Lunavin have not; they don't need them for that purpose since their minds and magic are stable. For the Lunavin, moon crystals are mainly used in their technology.
Moonish using moon crystals is considered sacriligious to the Lunavin, as they harbor a deep hatred for moonish (see "Lunavin").
Some moonish residing in Vael still wear moon crystals. However, most do not, and many may not even know of their existence or usefulness.
The usage of moon crystals is less common now due to a shortage, along with awareness of the risks of wearing one (namely, raw crystals' vulnerability to corruption). It's considered much safer to wear a specially-tempered and polished moon crystal known as a moondrop, though typically only the moonish at the Angel's Temple have access to them.
MOONDROP
Moondrops are specially-tempered and polished moon crystal charms or pendants shaped like a teardrop. Moondrops are most common at the Angel’s Temple, and they are often expensive to attain and create. While a moondrop (as opposed to raw crystal) is not required for moonish functioning, it is a safer and more effective alternative to raw crystals.
